I've been busier this year and managing to shoot more personal work. This was helped along with the purchase of a new Nikon D800 and an upgrade of a couple lenses. I'm thrilled with the quality of imagery I'm seeing from this digital camera. I can finally see that it is beginning to rival the quality of my old slide work. I've become excited about shooting again and hence, a newfound love of my old passion.
This past year has been excellent for shooting. I've been spending a good portion of my photography on night excursions. I find I have more time at night, when my daughter retires, to grab the gear and go. Vancouver offers an incredible array of nightscapes with the proximity to the ocean and the stunning light features found throughout the city. The marriage of light and reflection bodes well for my work. I continue to explore long exposures and movement, whether it is the constantly changing tides or the effects of wind or the movement of the earth, still photography takes on a new meaning. Add in some of Vancouver's famous fog and a new dimension is reached.
We continue to produce art shows in our building and I continue to do the annual Eastside Culture Crawl which use wrapped up this weekend in November. We saw 1000 people in our building, enjoying the work of the artists here at Railtown Studios. I've put together 2 new bodies of work for my shows this year and I have also produced 2 new 2014 calendars which I am selling. The 1st is Water Works, a stunning collection of my water-based works from the Canadian wilderness from a collection of paddling trips in both Ontario and the coast of British Columbia. The 2nd is a collection of my night work around the city of Vancouver. These wonderful Urban nightscapes have captured the marriage of light and water in a large format calendar.
Please contact me to purchase prints of one of my calendars before they are sold out.
